The Federation of Services of the Workers' Commissions of the Canary Islands has asked the Island Commerce Commissions to promote among the companies of the archipelago the proposal to close at 6:00 p.m. on December 24 and 31.
"Work-life balance is a right of working people that takes on special significance in key annual periods for families, such as summer vacations or Christmas," the union said in a press release.
This proposal has already been implemented in several Christmas campaigns in Lanzarote, where they have stated that "the experience has been a success, with more companies joining this initiative each year."
The measure is "sensible" and one of "social justice" for the sector's workers. And it is aimed at all businesses, both small ones that give life to the neighborhoods and historic centers of the Canary Islands' cities, and those businesses that are located in large shopping centers and retail spaces.
Throughout the Christmas campaign, we see how the staff redouble their efforts to provide the best care and service to the people of the Canary Islands. "The least they deserve is to be rewarded with this small gesture from the companies! We all have the right to celebrate Christmas with our families!", the Federation continued.
From Comisiones Obreras, they emphasized that this "is a great opportunity for the business fabric of commerce in the Canary Islands to demonstrate the social responsibility characteristic of this population and adhere to this proposal, which is a historical demand of this organization and of the workers in the sector."
