The CCOO, UGT and USO unions have called on workers at the handling company Swissport Spain to strike at Lanzarote airport and also at other aerodromes in Spain. The strikes will take place in June and July due to non-compliance with the collective agreement, according to Europa Press.
At Lanzarote airport, the stoppages will be held on July 2 and 9, from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., and from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. They will also take place on July 4 and 11, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and from 4:00 p.m. to 11:59 p.m.
The workers criticize the situation they have been left in after the former Flightcare was bought by Swissport, since their agreement has been "trampled on again and again." The unions claim that the 2012 CPI has not been paid to all workers, split shifts are being imposed at night, job pools are not being respected, "occupational health is conspicuous by its absence" and there are "abuses of overtime and peremptory hours due to poor planning."
According to Europa Press, there are more than a hundred companies whose flights may be disrupted on the days of the strike, including Lufthansa, Air France, American Airlines, British Airways, Emirates, Transaero, Singapore Airlines, easyJet and Ryanair, among others.
The stoppages, in addition to Lanzarote, will take place at the airports of Madrid, Barcelona, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Alicante, Malaga, Jerez de la Frontera, Almeria and Valencia. The UTE's of Swissport Spain will also support strikes in June and July at the airports where this company operates.
