Unemployment rises in Lanzarote to 17,381 unemployed despite the end of the de-escalation

79.6% of the new unemployed in the Canary Islands are from Lanzarote, which ended June with 510 more unemployed than the previous month

The end of the de-escalation did not stop the fall in unemployment in Lanzarote, which reached 17,381 unemployed in June. According to data from the Canary Islands Employment Observatory published by the Cabildo Data Center, the island ended the month with 510 more unemployed than in May, which represents an increase of 3%.

In comparison with last year, the increase in unemployment in Lanzarote is much greater, specifically 62.9%. And it is that, in June 2019 there were 10,672 unemployed on the island, that is, 6,709 less than there are now.

The number of unemployed has also grown in all the municipalities of the island, with the largest increase in Arrecife, which closed June with 8,816 unemployed, 257 more than the previous month. Haría ended the month with 526 unemployed, 21 more than in May, and San Bartolomé did so with 1,964, 39 more.

Teguise had 1,736 unemployed at the end of June, 74 more than in May, while Tías ended the month with 1,940 unemployed, 54 more than in the fifth month of the year. In Tinajo, the number of unemployed rose by 36 people, ending June with 555 unemployed; and Yaiza closed the month with 1,844 unemployed, 34 more than in May.


79.6% of the new unemployed in the Canary Islands are from Lanzarote

In the Canary Islands as a whole, unemployment also rose in June, although only by 0.25%. And, the archipelago ended the month with 261,714 unemployed people, 640 more than in May. Thus, 79.6% of the new unemployed in the Canary Islands corresponds to Lanzarote.

In the year-on-year comparison, however, an increase of 29.12% in unemployment in the Canary Islands is reflected.
