The Works Council of the Tourist Centers announces a strike notice as a measure of pressure for Wilfredo Toribio to be reinstated

The president of the Works Council of the Tourist Centers, Héctor Noda, announced this Friday on Radio Lanzarote that the workers have decided to present a strike notice as a measure of pressure for Wilfredo Toribio to be reinstated, who was fired after uttering some insults in a moment of tension to the members of the Board of Directors. This worker obtained a final judgment declaring the dismissal unfair and says that the measure is "disproportionate".

In recent days, the Centers' Works Council has held several work assemblies that led to a General Assembly on Thursday night. In it, a single item on the agenda was debated, which consisted of the strike notice as a measure of pressure. The workers voted in favor of this measure, which they could present this Friday or Monday.

From there, they could begin to make the strike effective, which would be indefinite, within 15 days. In addition, each worker has also signed a document supporting this strike notice in defense of Wilfredo Toribio. "Before the strike notice, the workers of the Centers have been responsible, because nobody wants a strike. But it is they who have sent us to the strike," said Héctor Noda, referring to the government group of the Cabildo. "This is our last way to continue pressing," he indicated.

The president of the Works Council of the Tourist Centers has also stated that this would be solved only "by reinstating the worker." "But the company doesn't want to. We have requested meetings even with the tourist employers to explain this matter, but none have received us," he lamented.

Unsuccessful mobilizations

With this strike notice, Héctor Noda believes that the government group of the Cabildo can react and reinstate the worker Wilfredo Toribio. However, during the last months the Centers' Works Council has carried out several acts of protest, without obtaining a response from the first institution. Even Toribio himself offered a press conference to apologize for the "insults" that, in a climate of tension, he uttered to several members of the Board of Directors of the Centers.

"If we don't move, we won't get it, so we'll have to mobilize to continue pressing. We've been doing everything for a year and a half, from concentrations, caravans or pasting posters, attending plenary sessions and press conferences. We have gone to talk to everyone, politicians and non-politicians, employers, businessmen... But nobody gives us a solution. The political leaders pass the buck to each other. They are teasing us with this issue," Noda denounced.
