Hotel and non-hotel establishments in Lanzarote received 15,136 travelers in March, 4,288 more than the previous month. However, their turnover was lower than in February, according to figures published in the Cabildo Data Center.
Specifically, tourist accommodations on the island earned 2,384,256 euros last March, which represents a decrease of 0.18% compared to February, or in other words, 4,469 euros. The reason is that, although they received more tourists, they lowered their prices. In addition, there were also fewer establishments open.
Specifically, 90 hotel and non-hotel complexes were open in March compared to 94 the previous month, which meant that of the 22,572 places offered in February, this figure was reduced to 19,847 a month later.
However, the occupancy of rooms or apartments was 15.39% in March compared to 13.79% the previous month. Likewise, and despite the fact that the average stay went from 7.47 nights to 5.89, overnight stays increased, with a total of 78,977 compared to 70,394 in February.
However, the average rate fell by more than six euros. Specifically, in February it was 63.13 euros (70.47 euros in hotels and 46.22 euros in non-hotel establishments) while in March it was 56.54 euros (60.26 in hotels and 45.89 in non-hotel complexes).
Finally, the data collected by the Cabildo Data Center reflects that employment in tourist establishments on the island decreased by 25.2% in March. Compared to the 2,602 jobs in February, a month later there were 1,946, which represents 656 fewer jobs.
