The regional government has transferred the management of port spaces with fishing activity to 13 guilds of the Canary Islands, including those of Playa Blanca, La Tiñosa and La Graciosa.
The objective of signing these agreements is the transfer of use of the space, temporary and free of charge, occupied by the different guilds in the fishing docks, which means for their managers the homogenization of the services provided by each guild, the regularization of said spaces, and providing a legal framework so that they can develop their activity with all the guarantees.
The agreement states that the management of the fishing dock includes all the necessary actions to organize the activity and manage the services of the fishing sector.
Likewise, the space ceded through this agreement will be used, solely and exclusively, for the installation and exploitation of fishing activity with its characteristic uses such as market; dry dock; supplies to fishermen; exhibition and first sale of seafood; preparation; refrigeration; freezing; or deposit of fishery products, and similar.
13 guilds of the Canary Islands
This Thursday the agreement was signed at the Presidency headquarters in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria with the senior skippers of the guilds of Playa Blanca; Morro Jable; La Tiñosa; La Graciosa; Gran Tarajal; Corralejo; Arguineguín; and Agaete.
A few days before, the signing took place at the Ministry headquarters in Santa Cruz de Tenerife between the regional head of the area, Alicia Vanoostende, the Deputy Minister Álvaro de la Bárcena, the Director General of Fisheries, Carmelo Dorta, and the senior skippers of the fishermen's guilds of Valle Gran Rey (La Gomera); Playa San Juan (Tenerife); Garachico (Tenerife); and Nuestra Señora de los Reyes (El Hierro). Meanwhile, yesterday, Wednesday the 24th, the corresponding agreement was carried out with the Fishermen's Guild of Nuestra Señora del Carmen de Tazacorte at the entity's facilities.
The regional head of the area, Alicia Vanoostende, highlighted that with this agreement “we are responding to a historical demand from the fishing sector of the archipelago, which was to have ownership of the areas of activity in the archipelago's docks.”
It should be remembered that in November 2020 the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries signed an agreement for the management of fishing docks with the public business entity Puertos Canarios, whereby the Ministry acquires the position of concessionaire of the aforementioned fishing docks and is responsible for the management of the fishing docks located in the ports managed by the Puertos Canarios entity that are occupied by guilds and fishermen's associations.
