The Cabildo of Lanzarote will distribute 70,000 strawberry seedlings, camarosa variety, to the island's farmers starting this Wednesday. Those interested should make an appointment by phone or by going to the Experimental Agricultural Farm of the Island Council from this Monday.
The Island Institution, through the Department of Agriculture, informs that the price will be 1.80 euros per bundle, which includes ten plants. The seedlings will not be sold individually, only in bundles of 10.
The strawberry is a plant that adapts well to very diverse climates, including that of Lanzarote. The Cabildo recommends avoiding saline and calcareous soils as it is a plant very sensitive to salinity. The harvest takes place between December and January, two and a half months after planting. The production usually ranges between 300 and 500 grams per plant.
