The CCOO union has called several days with stoppages and strikes, coinciding with the start of the summer sales campaign.
Specifically, they have called for an escalation of mobilizations, which includes partial stoppages on June 20, between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.; and in the afternoon, from 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.. Then, two 24-hour strike days, on June 22 and 26. The strike comes, according to CCOO, "after several months of meetings at the dialogue table" in which problems affecting the staff have been raised. "Faced with our proposals, the company has not provided any solution, so we have finally proposed mobilizations so that the company understands the discomfort of the staff."
The CCOO Lanzarote union mentions "the importance of replacing those people who are on medical leave or on leave of absence" because "in practice it means that there are very few staff in the stores, creating an overload of work", especially "in the face of the increase in work that will come with the arrival of the sales."
Noelia Fernández and Ana Cabrera, Legal Representatives of the H&M Workers in the Deiland Shopping Center under the CCOO acronym, explain to this news outlet that this store had 30 workers and that currently there are only 19 people on staff, they also point out that "the stoppages called by the ERE carried out by the company in May 2021 were supported by one hundred percent of the store's staff and that this new stoppage will also be supported by all the workers since, as they instill in us from CCOO Lanzarote: "The strength of the working class is the union of the workers."
"The H&M staff deserves an improvement in working and salary conditions"
In addition, CCOO assures that "after the economic situation caused by the rise in prices, we have proposed to the company to improve the salary and working conditions of the staff, through the creation of incentive systems and that the compensation and absorption clause is not applied, among other issues." However, "as with the previous situation after these months, the company has not attended to our requests."
"The H&M staff deserves an improvement in working and salary conditions, so we ask you to join the stoppages and strikes called," demands the CCOO union.
At the end of 2022, the Swedish fashion company already had to agree with CCOO and other unions on an improvement in the salary conditions of the workers. Specifically, the group committed to making an extraordinary payment to the workers to compensate for the non-payment of inflation.
In addition, H&M agreed at that time with CCOO to establish a dialogue table at the state level that has been active since January to address issues such as psychosocial risks, the company's salary policy and a possible adjustment of salary ranges, as reported by the company in December.
But as of today, as the General Secretary of CCOO Lanzarote, Vanesa Frahija, tells us, "absolute nothingness, the dialogue is not progressing and the company's position is none other than to try to delay the times and not seriously and responsibly face a dialogue to agree on improvements for its staff, which day after day defend the interests of the company with a strong commitment, demonstrating commendable professionalism."
