The strike of controllers called by the unions Unión de Controladores (USCA) and CCOO in the private air traffic control company Saerco, which manages the control tower of the airport of Lanzarote, starting this Friday has been left without effect due to the application of some minimum services that affect 100% of the staff, have informed to EFE union sources.
The ministerial order in this regard establishes that 76% of flights from Lanzarote to the peninsula must be carried out in both April and May, while for flights between Lanzarote and abroad the percentage is 54% in April and 51% in May.
Both organizations have called an indefinite strike starting today at Saerco to denounce "the lack of staff, the deterioration of working conditions and their impact on operational safety".
The unions expect the company to provide them with the list of protected flights, because, according to them, the company is interpreting that all of them are.
The call affects controllers at towers managed by the company, which are those at the airports of Sevilla, Jerez (Cádiz), Cuatro Vientos (Madrid), Vigo (Pontevedra), A Coruña, La Palma, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.
The union organizations, among which USCA is the majority, denounce that aeronautical safety cannot be sustained by a workforce "subject to permanent fatigue, stress and uncertainty".
Therefore, they demand sufficient staff in all towers, respect for aeronautical breaks, an end to "abusive" availability activations, guaranteed holidays and working conditions compatible with operational safety and professional dignity.
