Lanzarote airport received more national passengers in July than before the pandemic. According to figures published in the Cabildo Data Center, last month 64,763 people landed on the island from the Peninsula, the highest number recorded in a month since August 2014.
In comparison with July 2019, the arrival of national passengers to the island airport increased by 7.3%, since then 60,335 national passengers arrived at the island airport. And the increase is even greater if compared with the data from July of last year, amounting to 152.4%. And it is that, in the seventh month of 2020, after the confinement, only 25,663 national travelers landed in Lanzarote.
The number of national passengers registered last month also represents an increase of 79.9% compared to June of this year, since then 35,992 travelers arrived to the island from the Peninsula airport.
In the accumulated of this year, from January to July, 163,655 national passengers were received by the island, 46.8% more than the same period of 2020. Of these, the majority came from Madrid, specifically, 72,507 people, while 34,012 came from Catalonia and 16,129 from Andalusia. The rest came from the Basque Country (13,268), Galicia (12,348), Valencian Community (9,387), Principality of Asturias (5,171), Balearic Islands (560) and Aragon (273).
Inter-island passenger traffic
Regarding inter-island passenger traffic, in the first seven months of 2021 it was 414,548 people, which represents an increase of 59.9% compared to the same period last year. These figures, it is indicated, include the entries of travelers in both directions.
Regarding July, 101,939 passengers between islands were received by the Lanzarote aerodrome, a figure that is notably higher than that registered in the same month of 2020, when there were 78,713. However, in this case, the figure was higher in July 2019, when there were 117,788 inter-island passengers.
