The economic recovery of the island of Lanzarote is gradually being noticed in the number of people arriving at the César Manrique airport, which is increasing month by month, and with it the substantial improvement of the tourism sector. July has been the best month of the year so far, with 340,144 passengers, which is 40.2% more than in June, when there were 203,294.
In addition, the figure implies an increase of 75% compared to the same month last year, when only 194,355 passengers moved through the Lanzarote airport, despite the fact that the tourist opening had already begun last summer after the months of confinement.
In total, in the first seven months of 2021, 1,017,474 people have passed through the César Manrique airport, which is still 37.2% less than last year, since in 2020 there were two months prior to the pandemic, January and February, in which the state of alarm had not yet been decreed.
The possibility that some vaccinated foreign tourists can return to their countries without the need for a mandatory quarantine has helped planes arrive with more and more passengers and, with it, the opening of 80% of the island's hotel complexes. In fact, the movement that the airport is registering in August indicates that this month will close with even higher figures.
However, it is still far from the numbers prior to the pandemic. In July 2019, a total of 649,112 people passed through the rabbit terminals, which is 47.5% more than this year.
