Lanzarote closed August with 1,518 fewer unemployed than the previous month. Specifically, according to data from the Canary Islands Employment Observatory collected by the Cabildo Data Center, at the end of the month there were 12,903 unemployed on the island, which represents a decrease of 10.5% compared to August

In comparison with September 2020, unemployment has decreased by 24.3% on the island, since at that time there were 17,048 unemployed.

In percentage terms, September has had a lower drop in unemployment than in August, since last month the largest drop in unemployment since the pandemic began was achieved. In August, unemployment decreased by 2,358 people, which translates into a percentage of 14.1% compared to the previous month and 14.9% year-on-year.

Although unemployment data is still higher than it was before the pandemic, the significant drop in the month of September has reduced that difference. Currently, there are still 1,696 more unemployed than there were before the pandemic, given that in February 2020 there were 11,207 unemployed in Lanzarote.

In the Canary Islands as a whole, unemployment fell by 20,699 people in August compared to the previous month. Specifically, the archipelago closed August with a total of 213,558 unemployed, a figure that represents a decrease of 8.84 percent compared to the month of August and 16.01 percent year-on-year.
