The shipping company Fred Olsen has rectified the information about the route of the new Buganvilla Express, the mini-ferry joins the route from Playa Blanca to Corralejo, and not between Playa Blanca and Morrojable as the shipping company had initially reported.
Since the morning of this Monday, July 22, the new Fred Olsen Express mini-ferry, named Buganvilla Express, has been providing service between the ports of Playa Blanca, in Lanzarote, and Corralejo, in Fuerteventura. With a capacity for 250 passengers, the ship arrived in the Canary Islands from Vigo on Tuesday, July 16, to join the Buganvilla ship that has been providing service on this route since 2022.
In total, thanks to the incorporation of the newly built Rodman 80 model catamaran, manufactured by the national shipyard Rodman Polyships, 12 daily trips are offered on the route between Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, with 6 departures from each port. This represents a significant increase in maritime connections in this service intended exclusively for passenger transport, which until now had 8 trips a day, 4 from each island.
For the fleet director of Fred Olsen Express, Juan Ignacio Liaño, “with this new catamaran we consolidate our commitment to the passenger transport model without vehicles on short-duration routes. A model that was already offered on this line between the two eastern islands with the Buganvilla ship and that in its first year of life achieved an increase of 40% of travelers for this maritime connection. Precisely, to meet the demand and provide passengers with greater flexibility and quality in the service, we have invested in this newly built ship that will allow us to make 4 more daily trips on the line.”
This is the third mini-ferry intended exclusively for passenger transport of the company, since in addition to the Buganvilla, the company has the Benchi Express, which is operating on the coastal route of La Gomera that connects San Sebastián, Playa de Santiago and Valle Gran Rey.
The Buganvilla Express has dimensions of 26 meters in length and 9.80 meters in beam, with two engines of 1,470 HP each. It also has an interior and exterior deck, which is very popular among the tourist public, as well as a bar-cafeteria service and on-board entertainment. The catamaran has been designed to guarantee the accessibility of all its passengers, facilitating mobility, and has a Wi-Fi connection.
Those interested can now check the schedules and purchase their tickets through the usual purchasing channels of the shipping company: website, call center, app, travel agencies and offices in the port terminals. In addition, for more information, you can consult the website of the new service.
