The Government of the Canary Islands is already working on an action plan for the next three months with the objective of responding to the basic needs of Canarians, their descendants, and the population affected by the earthquakes registered in Venezuela.

The Vice-Minister of External Action, José Luis Perestelo, and the Director General of Emigration of the Government of the Canary Islands, José Téllez, held a meeting with the Canarian entities in the country and with the heads of the decentralized offices to analyze the most urgent needs detected on the ground, especially in the most affected states: Miranda, Caracas, and, above all, La Guaira.

As a result of this meeting, the regional Executive has agreed to convert the headquarters of the Delegation of the Government of the Canary Islands in Venezuela into the reference logistics center for channeling the aid and donations received by the Canarian entities, with which permanent coordination will be maintained.

The Director General of Emigration, José Téllez, stressed that "the priority of the Government of the Canary Islands is to be by the side of our people in Venezuela with a useful, coordinated, and sustained response over time." In this regard, he explained that "it is not only about meeting the urgency of the first few days, but about organizing a work plan for the next three months that allows covering basic, health, and social needs in the most affected areas."

Among the most urgent needs detected are drinking water and non-perishable food, preferably canned and of high protein value. Likewise, in the health field, after an initial analysis of the situation and the resources made available in coordination with the Canarian Delegation in Venezuela, the need for anti-inflammatories, analgesics, specific medication for chronic diseases—such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or cardiovascular conditions—masks, gloves, and colostomy bags has been identified.

The Government of the Canary Islands is already in contact with distribution companies in the country, located in states not affected by the earthquakes, which have these products or have the capacity to request them from other countries in the shortest possible time, in order to expedite their acquisition and distribution.

This same Tuesday, a new meeting will be held between the Government of the Canary Islands, the entities, and the professionals who develop social programs for Canarians and their descendants in the country to establish the distribution plan for products in the affected areas. This distribution will be organized both through permanent physical points and through a mobile delivery service to reach the most isolated areas.

The regional Executive thus maintains the monitoring and support device for the Canarian community in Venezuela active, in coordination with entities, foundations, and decentralized offices, with the aim of guaranteeing an orderly, effective response adapted to the real needs of the affected population.

Resources already activated by the Government of the Canary Islands in Venezuela

The Government of the Canary Islands has launched, through the Delegation in Venezuela and in coordination with Canarian entities in the country, various direct care resources to respond to the most urgent needs of the affected population.

Among them, a special emergency medical care operation is maintained in Caracas, available at Canarian entities and foundations, where various medical specialties are offered for cases that require it. The rest of the medical clinics in the states continue to operate within their established hours.

In addition, the Delegation of the Government of the Canary Islands in Venezuela has enabled a direct telephone assistance channel so that Canarian citizens and their descendants residing in the country can make inquiries and request information while in-person assistance is restored at the headquarters. The enabled number is 0424-286.99.65.
