The XIII Ordinary Island Congress of UGT re-elected César Reyes this Thursday as secretary of the union in Lanzarote, a position he has held since 2007 when the Extraordinary Island Committee granted him his confidence in replacement of Orlando Suárez. In the island congresses of 2009 and 2013 he also revalidated the position in the General Secretariat. In principle, he will have a four-year term.
Reyes is the only candidate who presented himself to this UGT electoral event and justified his decision in his interest in being at the head of the restructuring of the union on the Island, as a consequence of the process that the national federation will launch from May with the merger of the sectorial federations, which will go from six to three: Public Services, which will be joined by the education federation; Private services with Transport, Commerce, Banking, Hospitality and Tourism; and Industry that combines metal, chemistry, manufacturing, agri-food and wood.
