CC warns that the controllers' strike "threatens" the economy of the Canary Islands

The nationalists ask for the strike to be called off

August 4 2010 (14:44 WEST)
Cóalición Canaria has warned this Wednesday that the controllers' strike "would have serious consequences for the Canarian economy and would be a very hard blow for a sector such as tourism, which is making an important effort to overcome the serious consequences of the recession" and has called on the Spanish Government to "guarantee 100 percent of flights with the Canary Islands".

CC asks air traffic controllers to act "with the responsibility demanded by the difficult economic situation we are experiencing and to call off the strike called for the month of August".

The nationalists insist in a statement that the strike planned for after August 15 is a "serious threat" to the main economic sector of the Islands and hope that the controllers "are aware that their pulse with the Ministry of Development would have fatal consequences" for many workers and businessmen and "would be fatal" for the airlines.

"A single sector", concludes CC, "cannot jeopardize the future of the vast majority of workers in the Canary Islands and ruin the hopes of businessmen who have managed to overcome the crisis."
