The Vice President and Minister of Economy, Industry, Trade, and Self-Employed of the Canary Islands Government, Manuel Domínguez, announced this Friday during the V Traditional Markets Meeting the launch of aid lines worth 3.1 million euros for the modernization and revitalization of traditional markets in the Canary Islands.
"This is a commitment from the Directorate General of Commerce that **has increased the budget by more than 200%** for 2026 to renovate these spaces."
The meeting, held this year in Tenerife and organized by the Federation of Markets of the Canary Islands, brings together professionals involved in market management and aims to become a place to unite ideas for improvement and to face future challenges.
The Minister of Economy, Industry, Trade and Self-Employed, who pointed out that "traditional markets are a great encyclopedia of Canarian culture, combining culture, tradition, customs, kilometer zero, and the self-employed and, therefore, are important for the present and future of our islands".
In this regard, he highlighted the commitment of the Government of the Canary Islands to these spaces with an investment of 3.1 million for the **promotion and dissemination of traditional markets and the improvement of their infrastructure**.
The president of Femeca, Luis Caballero, thanked the active involvement of the Canary Islands Government and the Santa Cruz City Council for their "involvement in the organization of this event."
