The Canary Islands and Morocco are working on measures to speed up the procedures to reopen the maritime connection between the archipelago and Tarfaya.
The information was confirmed by the President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, after the working meeting he held with the Consul of Morocco, Fatiha El Kamouri.
Clavijo acknowledged during the meeting, in which the General Director of Relations with Africa, Luis Padilla, also participated, the importance of this maritime line, which he hopes will be operational next year.
The resumption of the maritime line is expected to contribute to improving economic and trade relations between the Canary Islands and Morocco and with other countries in the region.
Precisely, in this context Clavijo emphasized the good results of the maritime connection between Fuerteventura and Tarfaya between 2007 and 2008 and insisted that the Government of the Canary Islands "will do everything possible to ensure that it begins to operate as soon as possible."
The meeting between the President of the Canary Islands and the Consul of Morocco also discussed the interest in President Clavijo visiting Morocco next year.
