The measure is temporary, until the health inspection position in Lanzarote is filled. On the other hand, the tender for an additional cold storage is being prepared.

The president of the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa and member of the Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, José Valle, explained the causes of the delays that are occurring at the border inspection post (BIP) of Lanzarote, in an interview on Radio Lanzarote.

On the one hand, he explained that the Ministry of Health, responsible for this competence, has not yet managed to fill the vacant position of health inspection at the BIP of Lanzarote.

Until the position is filled, "an official from Gran Canaria will come to Lanzarote on Mondays, which is the day with the most activity," Valle said.

On the other hand, due to a regulatory change, Valle explained, the cold storage of the BIP, which previously could be used for both refrigerating and freezing, can no longer carry out these two alternative uses.

"The Port Authority has communicated its project for a new chamber to the Ministry of Health so that it gives its approval" and thus be able to launch the tender for the work to be done.
