The companies of the wind energy sector of the Canary Islands attended this Tuesday, for the first time, the Wind Europe Bilbao 2022 fair to present their new joint brand called Canary Trade Winds.
The Ministry of Economy, Knowledge and Employment of the Government of the Canary Islands explains that it decided to "unify the image of the archipelago's capacity in the development of technologies that promote wind energy so that potential investors and related industries can know the potential of the Canary Islands."
The new brand has been developed by the company Proexca, with the coordination of the Canary Islands Maritime Cluster and FEDEPORT. Specifically, Proexca will bring together the entire value chain of institutions and private companies operating in the Islands to ensure a more uniform dissemination.
In the words of the director of Proexca, Dácil Domínguez, Canary Trade Winds is "one of the most powerful examples of the relevance of public-private collaboration for the development of the strategic sectors of the Archipelago, as in this case, of the Blue Economy, linked to renewable energies".
In addition, the Minister of Ecological Transition, Fight against Climate Change and Territorial Planning, José Antonio Valbuena, highlights the importance of the presence of the Canary Islands in this forum and points out that he has already contacted Spanish companies of international relevance, such as Iberdrola Renovables and Navantia.
"The Government of the Canary Islands is going to take advantage of this international platform to present its Marine Wind Energy Strategy to national and international companies, which is included in the Canary Islands Energy Transition Plan (PTECan)", Valbuena highlights. "The goal is that by 2030 60% of the archipelago's electricity demand will come from renewable sources."
For her part, the Minister of Economy, Knowledge and Employment, Elena Máñez, recalls that "the islands have the best wind field in the sea in all of Europe, in addition to scientific and port facilities and a highly specialized business fabric, which can cover practically all the needs of any investor who wants to settle or experiment here with marine wind power."
