The Canary Islander Emma Falcón, the only female driver competing at the national level: I don't notice any special treatment for being a woman

Emma Falcón from the Canary Islands, the only female driver competing at the national level, will be present on Friday and Saturday at the Orvecame Isla de Lanzarote rally. Falcón tells La Voz about her experience in this world of men, where she has obtained a strong sponsor, the company Plus Car, which accompanies her on this adventure.

For Falcón, being a woman in a world of men is not easy, although "it has its advantages". "Being the only woman who races at the national level gives me advantages that any other guy doesn't have, even if they have better qualities than mine," she points out. Furthermore, as she has been racing since she was little, she believes that the world of motorsport has already become accustomed to her presence.

"I don't notice any special treatment, either for or against, for being a woman. There's always someone who says 'how can they put her on the entry list before me', but it's not the norm," she insists. She even assures that it is easier for a woman to get a sponsor. "I think it helps me, because being the only woman competing in this has more impact. However, it is quite complicated for everyone because companies don't have money," she says.

Falcón has had the support of Plus Car since this year. "The truth is that this help is essential, because it is a very expensive sport. Finding a serious company that fulfills its payment commitment is difficult and also supports female driving," she defends.

Objective: "to do a good job" in Lanzarote

Emma Falcón has competed this year in the RMC Scholarship at the national level and also in the Catalonia Rally, which counts towards the world championship, where she had a setback at the last minute that took away the race. "We were first. We were playing for a scholarship whose prize was 30,000 euros. The car broke down when we had five kilometers left to finish the stage and get to the assistance," she says.

Despite this, and the "rage" she felt when the car failed her, she is very eager to get rid of that thorn and continue fighting in this weekend's rally in Lanzarote. "We start with number 15, it's the best position I've ever started in. We want to try to do a good job and apply what we've learned throughout the year," says this driver.
