The general director of Transportation of the Canary Islands Government, María Fernández, has sent a letter to the Secretary of State for Transportation and Sustainable Mobility, José Antonio Santano, and to the General Secretary of Air and Maritime Transport, Benito Núñez, to ask them to use their mediation to try to avoid the air traffic controllers' strike called from February 1 to 29.

María Fernández has stated in the letter that the privatization of the service harms the connectivity of the Canary Islands, the transport of goods, and tourism.

The general director urges to halt the privatization of the remaining services of the Canary Islands airports and to reverse the privatization in those airports where it has already been carried out.

"This conflict is having a negative impact on the public service and it is necessary to find a solution that guarantees efficiency and safety in air traffic control", according to Fernández.
