The President of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, has announced that the United Kingdom could remove the archipelago "imminently" from its list of destinations to which it had previously advised its citizens not to travel.
In statements to the media after participating in the presentation of the Covid-Safe Lanzarote project, the president said that the Government of the Canary Islands is in "permanent contact" with the British authorities.
In this regard, he indicated that the United Kingdom's decision to consider the territories separately from the countries "is going to become firm", which would allow British tourists to come to the archipelago.
"It is imminent that this can be achieved," said Torres, who hoped that the Canary Islands Day, on May 30, could be celebrated with the opening of the British market.
The United Kingdom would thus join Germany, the Netherlands and Denmark, which from today, Saturday, already allow their compatriots to travel to the Canary archipelago without the need to quarantine upon their return.
