The positive coronavirus test of an Italian tourist in Tenerife has forced the quarantine of more than 1,000 people staying at the H10 Costa Adeje Palace hotel this Tuesday morning, according to Diario de Avisos.

The citizen, who is now admitted to the Nuestra Señora de Candelaria University Hospital, had been staying with his wife at this tourist complex in the Tenerife municipality of Adeje for a week.

The tourist, a doctor from the area of Italy affected by the coronavirus, began to feel unwell and went to the Quirón Clinic in southern Tenerife, where he remains hospitalized and isolated after testing positive in the tests carried out.

The H10 Costa Adeje Palace Hotel has assured this Tuesday that it is "collaborating closely with the health authorities" and has "implemented all the recommended health and operational measures to guarantee the safety of its clients and employees".

Through a statement, the complex has explained that it is providing the hotel's clients and staff with "all the necessary attention and care so that, regardless of any possible inconvenience that this situation may cause them, they are attended to at all times."

The guests of the Tenerife hotel are being subjected to "health controls" since "early in the morning", as confirmed to Europa Press by sources from the Canary Islands Ministry of Health.

The Executive Committee of the Canary Islands Government in charge of monitoring the outbreak will meet "throughout the morning" to make "all the corresponding decisions" following the coronavirus protocol, which has already been activated.

Police sources have detailed to Europa Press that National Police officers are guarding the hotel where this Italian citizen was staying, who is now admitted to the Nuestra Señora de Candelaria University Hospital.

According to Diario de Avisos, strictly following the action protocol established by the Spanish and Italian authorities for these cases, the state security forces have been preventing any of the clients staying at the complex from entering or leaving for a few hours.
