The exhibition hall of the Parliament of the Canary Islands hosted this Thursday the inauguration of the exhibition “Art makes us free”, a work carried out by the inmates of the Tenerife Penitentiary Center. The exhibition was inaugurated by the president of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Astrid Pérez, who highlighted the high quality of the works and the social function that is carried out through these workshops, “these activities allow inmates to regain confidence in themselves”, she pointed out, adding that “many of them did not paint before entering prison, so it has much more merit.”
The director of the Adult Education Center “Farola de Santa Cruz”, Ana Belén González, assured that “in exhibitions like this, their emotion is transmitted when they feel that society does not forget them.”
The exhibition stands out for the use of recycled materials that, thanks to the joint project of the Farola de Santa Cruz adult education center and the Tenerife penitentiary centers, have a second life here.
The inauguration was attended by Adrián Delgado, territorial director of Education; Aránzazu Cabrera, attached to the Deputy of the Common; Heliodoro González, president of the Red Cross; Carmen Cabrera Felipe, educator at the Tenerife Penitentiary Center, and deputies Luz Reverón and Marta Gómez.
The exhibition will be open until next Thursday, June 26, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
