The Minister of Universities, Science and Innovation and Culture of the Government of the Canary Islands (CUCIC), Migdalia Machín, has signed the order approving the regulatory bases and announcing "two of the subsidies to the cultural sector" scheduled for this year. Both orders, which represent a total investment of "more than four million euros" and are already available on the department's website, will become effective after their publication in the BOC.
Cultural projects and activities of small, medium and large format can be submitted to them and are aimed at initiatives in performing and musical arts (dance, theater, circus and music), literature (narrative, poetry, essay, dramaturgy and oral narration), comics and graphic novels and, in the case of large format, to projects of the audiovisual industry.
In a gesture of recognition and gratitude, Migdalia Machín addressed the cultural sector to "express my sincere gratitude to all the professionals and entities that make up the Canarian cultural fabric. The understanding and constructive attitude demonstrated in the face of the delay in the call for cultural subsidies for the years 2023 and 2024 is a demonstration of the unwavering commitment to culture".
The call for Large Format projects will have a budget of "2,600,000 euros", and projects carried out throughout 2023 and 2024 can be submitted to it; while the Small and Medium Format has a budget of "1,600,000 euros" for projects carried out in the second semester of 2023 and in the first of 2024. Both are under a competitive concurrence regime and those interested have a period of 15 days to apply, counting from the date of publication in the BOC.
"The objective of these subsidies is to promote projects of Canarian cultural agents and attract new audiences. The cultural and creative sectors are fundamental pillars for the preservation of cultural values and identity cohesion in our society," says Migdalia. These subsidies play a "determining role" in guaranteeing the cultural rights of the population by enabling the impact on citizens of very diverse cultural expressions.
