The Ministry of Health has stopped testing the general population and no longer reports daily positives, but Covid has not disappeared from the archipelago, nor have its consequences in some cases. Since last Friday alone, 12 patients with coronavirus have died in the islands, according to a statement this Tuesday from the Ministry, which now only provides information twice a week.
Six of the deaths reported in these four days occurred in Tenerife, five in Gran Canaria and one in La Gomera. The deceased were between 72 and 92 years old and, according to the Ministry of Health, all were in hospital and had "previous pathologies".
Regarding the new cases detected, only positives in people over 60 years of age are reported, which is the only age group that is still being tested when there are suspected cases of Covid. In total, since Friday, 773 new positives have been confirmed in people over 60.
Regarding hospitalizations, there are currently 280 people admitted to hospitals in the Canary Islands with coronavirus, of which 27 are in the ICU and 253 are on the ward. The Ministry does not detail how many there are on each island and the Health Department of Lanzarote stopped reporting days ago on the situation at the Molina Orosa Hospital.
