The President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, believes that "it would be convenient" for the head of the Spanish Executive, Pedro Sánchez, to receive him during his vacation in Lanzarote to address the migratory phenomenon.

In statements to the media after attending the institutional events of the festivities of the Virgen de Candelaria, patron saint of the Canary Islands, Clavijo stressed that both presidents, state and regional, have "many things to talk about."

And one "especially complicated" is immigration, as "they continue to arrive incessantly pateras, minors, and we are all afraid that from September things may be the same or worse than last year. In fact, these first months of the year have been worse."

Clavijo has indicated that so far Moncloa has not contacted the Government of the Canary Islands to hold that meeting.

"I think it would be convenient, but he has to decide," said the Canarian president in allusion to Pedro Sánchez.

Prior to these statements, the party led by Fernando Clavijo, Coalición Canaria, had requested said meeting with the head of the central executive, as it has done in previous summers, either from the government or from the opposition in the autonomous community.
