The Councilor for Ecological Transition and Energy of the Canary Islands, Mariano Hernández Zapata, admitted this Tuesday that there is "hard work" to be done in the authorizations of discharges from land to sea, a competence of the regional Executive.

Zapata, in statements to the media, assured that the Canary Islands is in a "critical situation" regarding water management that "only increases with climate change."

He pointed out that although the water competence belongs to the Ministry of Territorial Policy of the Government of the Canary Islands, it is necessary to "take a step further" in the use of treated water.

Likewise, he has advocated for reducing water losses, taking advantage of treated water, as well as making responsible use of these resources.

In his opinion, the key is in reducing losses, improving transport and making responsible use of water.
