The president of the Canary Islands Government, Ángel Víctor Torres, explained this Monday that it will be next September 10 when his Executive meets to decide whether the school year starts normally on September 15 or, on the contrary, decisions of greater restriction must be taken in all or some islands.
"On September 10 we will assess the situation to see if all sites are incorporated on the 15th," the president said in a radio interview collected by Europa Press. "If it starts, it will be with maximum security," he said.
Torres considered it "premature" to make the decision now, 16 days in advance and with the current situation of cases, on how the course will start and whether it will do so equally in all the islands or municipalities. Thus, he said he hoped it could be done normally because he trusts to be "better" in terms of contagiousness figures within 2 weeks than now.
The course does not start in any center, not even private before the 15th
In addition, the Canary Islands president specified that the course cannot begin at any educational level and not even in private centers before September 15 and stressed that what can be done on the 15th will be decided 5 days before.
"You have to adapt to that date. And on the 10th we will analyze; any decision is possible, that it starts on all the islands, that it is delayed on all, that it is delayed on some island. We will make the decision and we hope to be better than today," he detailed.
It is time to "live" with the pandemic
The president was clear and said that at this point "nothing is ruled out" that goes in the line of containing the figures of infected people so as not to collapse the hospitals and in the line of "living" in reasonable figures for the system with the pandemic until a vaccine can arrive.
Torres, who recalled during the interview that he has a 5-year-old child, said he understands and shares that there is "fear" in parents, but stressed that it is necessary to "walk towards an educational normality", knowing that there are "protocols" already defined to avoid infections and on how to act in case of positives.
