The Government of the Canary Islands will have a protocol within a month so that the town councils can present the pertinent documentation and reports if they want to request the declaration of stressed areas in their municipalities, the Minister of Housing, Pablo Rodríguez (CC), announced this Monday.

In a press conference after the weekly meeting of the Governing Council, Rodríguez reported on this protocol, which will be similar to the one already approved by the Basque Country, and pointed out that they are still on time since they have not received any request.

Rodríguez explained that, in any case, they have sent a query to the Ministry of Housing about the state law to clarify which body, the town council or the autonomous community, is the one that should draft these reports, while indicating that once the request is submitted, it is the Ministry that must decide whether or not the declaration is appropriate.

The Minister emphasized that the fact of a declaration of a stressed area does not imply the limitation of housing rental prices, since what the housing law establishes are extraordinary measures.

According to Rodríguez, in fact, the Executive chaired by Fernando Clavijo has anticipated the state law with the decree law of urgent measures regarding housing by declaring the housing emergency throughout the archipelago and establishing measures to solve the problem.

This decree law has been approved in a "record time" but "it is not the end point of housing policies, but one more measure".
