Some 45 people have spent the night outside the headquarters of the Government Delegation in Canarias, in the Plaza de la Feria in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, at the start of a camp that joins the protests over the housing crisis initiated at the Puerta del Sol in Madrid. Added to this situation is the announcement by the Tenants' Union of nationwide mobilizations on October 3 and 4.
As EFE has verified, 27 tents have appeared in front of the main entrance of the Delegation, continuing an assembly held last night in the same location by about 200 people convened by the platform Derecho a Techo.
In principle, those already camping and those who join them will remain in that location until Friday, when the plenary session of Congress decides, in an extraordinary session, whether to validate the two decree-laws approved by the Council of Ministers following the outrage sparked by the eviction of the elderly Maricarmen from a flat in the center of Madrid.
Derecho a Techo plans to hold a press conference in the same location, at 11:00 AM, to explain the reforms they demand from the administrations to guarantee the right to housing.
This press conference had been initially called for outside the Canary Islands Housing Institute, but the organizers decided early this morning to move it to the campsite location.
