El Zonzamas Plus Car Lanzarote once again offered a good image, but was once again left without a prize against the leader of the Liga Guerreras Iberdrola. The Lanzarote team fell 24-26 against Balonmano Atlético Guardés, who maintained their perfect record, in a match in which the home team managed to tie the score and came within one goal in the final minutes.
Guardés came out with great intensity and managed to impose their rhythm from the first moments, leading 1-3 in the 6th minute. El Zonzamas responded with Brenda Roger, who broke the offensive drought with the 2-4 in the 9th minute, while the local defense began to hinder the offensive actions of the Galician team. However, the Lanzarote team struggled to convert their recoveries into effective counterattacks.
Zaliata Mlamali brought El Zonzamas closer at 3-4 and the local attack began to find more solutions. The Lanzarote players remained in the game thanks to defensive intensity and Gleinys Reyes' effectiveness from seven meters.
The reaction paid off around the 20th minute. Maria Monllor culminated a counterattack to establish an eight-all tie and force Guardés to call a timeout. The Galician team picked up the pace again and regained a two-goal lead, prompting Sergio Hernández to stop the match in the 22nd minute with a score of 8-10.
Guardés then advanced their defense, while El Zonzamas found two obstacles in the posts and the visiting goalkeeper to continue closing the gap. The halftime score was 10-12.
After the break, El Zonzamas came out with a much deeper and more active defense, accompanied by saves from Alicia Robles, which allowed the team to stay in the wake of a very effective Guardés. The visitors reached 13-17 in the 36th minute, but the Lanzarote team resisted despite a double exclusion that further complicated the scenario.
Luna Vončina reduced the difference to 16-19 in the 41st minute and, after another local timeout, Thalyta Cardoso culminated a counterattack to make it 18-20 near the 45th minute. El Zonzamas was back in the game, although the posts once again prevented the comeback from advancing more quickly.
Guardés called a timeout in the 46th minute with the score at 18-21, but the home team continued to push. Marilia Correia made it 21-22 in the 51st minute and the match entered its decisive phase completely open.
A suspension forced Zonzamas to leave their goal unguarded and Guardés took advantage of the situation to regain the lead, making it 22-25 in the 56th minute. The atmosphere in the stands intensified in the final minutes, with protests over several refereeing decisions.
With the score at 23-26, Sergio Hernández called a timeout in the 57th minute to face the final stretch. Gleinys Reyes had the opportunity to put Zonzamas within a single goal from the seven-meter line in the 59th minute, but her shot missed the goal.
Guardés also stopped the game to organize their final minute, and the Lanzaroteñas sought a final reaction until the end. Finally, the match ended 24-26, leaving Zonzamas once again close to scoring against one of the teams that has started the competition best.
