The CEOE of Tenerife has proposed more than 300 measures for the period 2027-2031 aimed at increasing the productivity and competitiveness of the Canary Islands, including facilitating investment, reducing administrative hurdles, addressing the housing shortage, executing strategic infrastructures, and improving the management of labor absenteeism.
The proposals, grouped into 18 thematic areas, have been developed from contributions from companies, sectoral organizations, and professionals with a view to contributing to the economic and institutional debate ahead of the upcoming elections, the employers' association reported in a statement.
For the CEOE of Tenerife, reducing the gap of nearly 30 percentage points between the Canary Islands and the European Union average in terms of GDP per capita requires short, medium, and long-term actions to advance in business productivity and competitiveness.
The business measures aim to facilitate investment, promote the creation of higher value-added employment, boost the incorporation of technology and artificial intelligence into companies, and adapt training to the needs of the productive sector.
The employers' association also proposes the simplification of bureaucracy and the improvement of administrative efficiency, as well as measures to manage labor absenteeism and accelerate the execution of infrastructures considered strategic.
The CEOE also considers a response to the shortage of housing supply on the islands to be a priority.
Defending the status of the Canary Islands as an outermost region, strengthening the legal certainty of the Economic and Fiscal Regime (REF), and ensuring greater regulatory stability to favor investment and business activity are other measures proposed by the Tenerife businessmen.
