The Volcanological Institute of the Canary Islands has reported a new lava flow in the southern area of the eruptive center of the La Palma volcano.

This new lava flow runs through the Las Manchas area, one of the first to be evacuated since the eruption began on September 19.

The lava from the La Palma volcano has covered 14 hectares in the 12-hour interval, bringing the total area destroyed by the different lava flows to 891.9 hectares.

This is according to the latest measurement made by the European Copernicus satellite system at 8.14 am this Sunday. The previous one was made on Saturday at noon.

In the image published by Copernicus on social networks, this new area covered by lava is located in the back of the lava flow that has stopped in the La Laguna neighborhood and could be attributed to the magma overflows recorded early on Saturday.

The number of destroyed buildings has also increased since then, specifically 14 more for a total of 2,143 since the eruption began in Cumbre Vieja on September 19.
