A girl of almost three years old died this Saturday afternoon after drowning in a pool in the south of Gran Canaria, as reported by the Coordinating Center for Emergencies and Security (Cecoes).
As detailed by the public body, the call to the 112 operating room was received at around four in the afternoon, local time, and reported that personnel from the site had pulled the minor out of the pool with symptoms of drowning, so it activated emergency resources to respond to the incident. According to the newspaper La Provincia, the minor was spending a day at the pool with her grandmother.
Upon arriving at the scene, a water park located in the town of Taurito, the staff of the Canary Emergency Service confirmed that the girl was in cardiorespiratory arrest, so they proceeded to perform basic and advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers, although they failed to recover the minor's pulse and could only confirm her death.
In addition to two SUC ambulances, a medical helicopter was dispatched to the scene in case it was necessary to urgently transfer the minor to a hospital.
Firefighters from the Gran Canaria Emergency Consortium collaborated with the rest of the emergency resources to secure the area where the SUC medical helicopter landed, while personnel from the Local Police and Civil Protection of Mogán also participated in the emergency.
For its part, the Civil Guard is in charge of instructing the corresponding proceedings.
