The Association for Business and Commercial Development of Altavista (ADECA) has denounced the poor condition of the sidewalks and roads in the neighborhood. "There are many sidewalks in the Altavista neighborhood that are in poor condition and this causes serious accessibility problems for residents. There are even streets like Temisa where only the curbs are found," they say.
From this association they have reproached the Arrecife City Council that it is not only necessary to pave the main streets, but also "first fix the sidewalks so that there is better accessibility for the residents." The group has insisted that there are sidewalks that are "more than 50 years old and still without any type of maintenance by the City Council." And it is "the residents and taxpayers themselves" who have "to make the sidewalk repairs."
"Altavista is not the center of Arrecife but it also pays taxes and that they come 6 months before the elections to pave the main streets, leaving the sidewalks and secondary roads in the background, seems shameful to us," the association criticized.
