A reader has contacted La Voz to report the payment of an abusive water bill of almost 700 euros. The events date back to 2024 due to a breakdown that took place in his house and of which he was not aware.
From Canal Gestión, the company in charge of water management in Lanzarote, they previously warned him that there was excessive consumption in his home. "I contacted them quickly and they told me that there was a breakdown, we located it and it turned out to be in the toilet but it was imperceptible," he explains.
At that time, the bill was already more than 400 euros, so the neighbor decided to split the payment. To do this, he had to hire a certified plumber to fix the breakdown and thus be able to present the bill.
"I went to Canal Gestión with the bill, I requested the splitting with the form they gave me and twenty days later they replied by letter that they had accepted the split payment," he says. At that moment, the affected person took the opportunity to direct debit the payments of the receipts.
After that, the first bill was 40 euros, a little more than what he normally paid for water, but he believed that they were already charging him the split payment of almost 700 euros within that amount.
However, the reality was that that split payment was not being made, so the company decided to cut off the water. "Yesterday when I arrived at my house with my son from school, he went to wash his hands and there was no water, at that moment I called Canal Gestión and they told me that they had cut off the supply due to that bill," he says.
Due to this, they indicated that he had to pay the full payment at once to have the supply back. "They told me that when they approved the splitting I should have gone to the office, pay the first installment but that was not stated in the letter or anywhere because if I had known that they were going to cut off the water, I would have gone to pay everything but they did not warn me," he concludes.
