The full moon or Beaver Moon of last November 7 and one of the most emblematic animals of the island, the camel, were portrayed in snapshots of the photographer Rosa GV who has sent to La Voz along with a text that she wanted to share with the readers.

TEXT:

"After almost a year of planning and several canceled attempts due to the weather, finally, objective achieved!!

In 1405 the first specimens arrived in Lanzarote from Africa, floating in the sea tied to the side of the boats, thanks to the air they can accumulate in their stomachs.

Camels in the Canary Islands, dromedary since they have a single hump, have been an indispensable element in the socioeconomic development of the island of Lanzarote, mainly in agriculture and transport when there were no cars or trucks. Not only did they plow the land, they were also in charge of transporting the products of the field and the wine of Lanzarote, so that they would reach the rest of the islands. Even in the landscape of La Geria they worked as construction workers and even carried water to the houses before the supply network existed.

Nowadays they take tourists through the Timanfaya National Park, a relatively recent activity.

Yaiza is currently the homeland of the Lanzarote camels, having the maximum representation in Uga".

PS: Very grateful to Toño Morales, owner of camels for his patience, always willing as soon as he was warned to take the photos and reassure his camel Apolonio during the session since he did not stop still away from the herd.
