Report on the “poor programming” of public lighting in Costa Teguise

A neighbor says that some streetlights "turn off very early" in the morning, when the sun has not yet risen, and that others "turn on very late" when it is already dark in the town.

A reader has contacted La Voz to report the "poor programming" of the public lighting in Costa Teguise. "There are automatic systems that are programmed and do not have the intervention of an operator to save a lot of money," he says.

According to the resident of the area, the light turns on "very early" in some streets of the town, such as Travesía del Hurón street or Ruta del Norte, and on the other hand there are roads where they turn off "very late" in the morning, when it has not yet dawned, in streets such as Avenida Las Buganvillas.

"There are other streets where the public lighting turns on even though there is full sun in the morning and in the afternoon," adds the resident of Costa Teguise.

"A public lighting like the one in Costa Teguise spends a lot of electricity every day," says the resident, and another of his criticisms is that this poorly invested money could be used in other actions such as, for example, "cleaning the gardens".

The resident of Costa Teguise also emphasizes the environmental impact of the energy expenditure of public lighting when it is not necessary, which could be alleviated by making responsible use of light on the roads of the town.
