A reader has contacted La Voz to report the deficiencies of some hydrants that are located throughout the island's orography. These fire safety devices are used to access large amounts of water in the event of an emergency.

The citizen says that "there are about 12 or 13 hydrants of the Security and Emergency Consortium distributed throughout the island's geography and, according to regulations, these can go in columns and here in Lanzarote some have placed them in small paninter or cabinets and under metal boxes weighing more than 25 kilos, the latter being an ergonomic error".

According to the reader, these hydrants must be marked by signage warning the pedestrian or driver that they cannot park near or on top of them. In addition, they must be outside the rolling area. "Some comply and others don't even come close, apart from this introduction for better knowledge, I don't know how the Consortium allows it and Canal Gestión also allowed it and we must not forget that the maintenance of these, as well as their access security, should only be done by firefighters and company personnel," he explains.

In this sense, he assures that many of the hydrants lack signage and are within the rolling area and very heavy boxes. They also do not have padlocks and anyone can access them and manipulate them and others are without maintenance and with the access doors stolen or robbed.

The citizen recalls that "the day there is water at these points its pressure can be above several bars or kilos of pressure (between 3 and 6 kilos), so anyone who misuses them can get hurt".
