Forced to buy a carrier on Binter after being denied the use of her own: "I've been using the same one for 11 years"

The airline denied her boarding because, they say, "the dog could not stand inside the carrier", so she had to pay almost 40 euros for one from the company itself.

A reader has contacted La Voz to report the situation she experienced this Thursday on a Binter flight between Tenerife and Lanzarote after the airline prohibited her from flying with the carrier she uses for her dog. The woman claims that she "has been flying with the same one for eleven years" but that this time they did not allow her to board the animal with her usual carrier because "the dog could not stand inside it."

In this sense, the passenger clarifies that "when a dog is in a closed container, its physiology is to be lying down, not standing, and my dog is perfectly capable of standing up and turning around."

Faced with the refusal to let her board the plane with her carrier, the woman was forced to purchase one from the airline for 37.45 euros. "It was a flimsy piece of fabric with a roof that kept falling off, and the dog had no visibility; it was of terrible quality," she says.

"I think they take advantage of the passenger's need with these prices so they don't have to miss their flight, creating a situation of commercial abuse," the reader continues.

However, the situation did not end there, as when boarding the plane, the flight attendant told the passenger that she "had to put the dog on the floor under the seat." "In the seat next to me there was another passenger and it was bothering him because he didn't have enough space to stretch his legs," she points out.

Faced with this situation, the woman says she feels annoyed because she "pays 14 euros each way so that my dog can travel with me and to carry him in the cabin, so that he is not alone and is comfortable. It seems to me that the conditions are increasingly shameful and senseless."

The passenger also criticizes the airline's price increases. "They are exorbitant prices when we supposedly enjoy a 75% discount for being a Canary resident, but flights never go below 60 euros," she says. "I'm not even complaining about the price increase they made this year, but at the very least, since I'm paying a lot, my dog can go on my legs as he has done before," she concludes.
