A reader has contacted La Voz to report the situation that users of public buses in Playa Blanca are experiencing due to the works being carried out on Avenida de Papagayo.
According to him, the works are causing significant modifications and closures of bus stops. In fact, he assures that on the route between the Playa Blanca Bus Station and Las Coloradas, various intermediate stops in areas such as Playa Dorada, Papagayo, the town, and other usual points on the route have been affected.
This problem particularly affects workers in hotels, shops, and establishments in the area. "From the vicinity of the Hotel Playa Dorada to the bus station, for example, there is currently no operational alternative stop that adequately covers certain routes," he points out.
For this reason, he indicates that situations of tension between passengers and drivers are occurring. "There are workers who use the bus daily to travel to their workplaces and who, unable to get off at their usual stop, are forced to do so at other points and walk, in some cases in a considerable hurry, a considerable distance to be on time," they indicate.
This discontent also extends to some drivers due to the organization of the service and their working conditions. According to some professionals, during the same day, successive line changes and reassignments can occur. For example, a driver may initially perform an Arrecife–Playa Blanca route, then later provide services in Playa Blanca, and then change again to cover another route such as Arrecife–Órzola.
Added to all this is the pressure resulting from the modifications caused by the works, passenger complaints, and the difficulties in providing the service normally.
