The trips of the Institute for the Elderly and Social Services (Imserso) will return shortly, and a reader of La Voz wanted to denounce the difficulties that the elderly of Lanzarote continue to have when making these trips.
“The departures from Lanzarote are not offered like Ceuta, Melilla, Ibiza or Menorca, and you have to pay out of your pocket for the transfer to Gran Canaria or Tenerife”, he says, pointing out that if the departure or return times to some of the capital islands do not coincide, “you also have to take care of the hotel nights”.
This situation, according to the reader, did not occur before the Government of Spain agreed to the 75% discount for residents in the Canary Islands. “There you paid for the ticket out of your pocket, but then you presented the documents to the Social Services of the City Council and, after 3 or 5 months, you received the amount spent”, he explains.
In addition, the reader points out that some “smart guys”, taking advantage of the digital divide that still exists in some older people who do not master internet access, “take advantage of up to five Imserso trips”.
“The quota that Imserso has assigned to the Social Services of each City Council, there is an ordinance that is not complied with, and the person in charge places all his 'buddies' in said reservations, whether you are a beginner or a repeater”, he adds.
Finally, he criticizes that there is currently no association that “defends the rights of pensioners”.
