Residents of the downtown area of Arrecife are requesting the "pedestrianization" of a section of Alegranza Street. The reason for their proposal is "the continuous accidents" that occur at one of the intersections, between Alegranza and Tenerife Street, in the capital of Lanzarote.
"There is an accident every two weeks," citizens say. This Thursday another accident occurred with two cars involved, the second since January, according to reports. "The previous accident was on January 30, in which a car fled after running a stop sign," they revealed to the newspaper. On that occasion, it was a child who was run over while riding his scooter.
"The most alarming thing about what is happening on this street is no longer the continuous number of accidents, but that it occurs when there are pedestrians and the matter is more serious," the group of residents denounces.
"We believe that pedestrianizing this section would not cause much disruption to traffic," the citizens recall, who have already made the same request on several occasions without finally obtaining any solution in this regard. They write to the electronic headquarters of the Arrecife City Council to study the proposal, but the City Council "does not act," they complain.
They make it clear that there are already "enough accidents" at this road intersection, something that can be verified through reports at the local police station of the capital. Despite the citizens' complaints, the city council "does not give an answer," they continue to emphasize indignantly.
