A tourist's bad luck in Lanzarote: her luggage is lost and she gets bitten by bedbugs in a hotel

After more than ten days, the woman is still waiting for the airline to send her part of her luggage while trying to forget her stay at the hotel.

Some of the bites on the legs of one of the affected tourists

A tourist who was traveling in a travel group organized by the Junta de Extremadura chose Lanzarote to enjoy a dream vacation but ended up turning into a nightmare. First, she faced bedbug bites in a Lanzarote hotel that caused welts on her legs and buttocks, and then on her return flight to Madrid on November 30, Iberia lost her luggage.

During her stay at the Beatriz de Costa Teguise hotel, the woman woke up on the first day with a rash on one of her legs. "That day I didn't go to reception because it seemed strange to me, but I didn't give it importance, but at the pool I met a woman who told me that she was full of welts just like me and she told me that they had told her that they were bedbugs," she says.

It seemed strange to the tourist that there were this type of insects at this time of year, but she let it pass. However, the next day she woke up with the other leg also full of bites. "At that moment I went to the reception to ask for explanations and they told me that they had evicted the piano-bar area because they believed that the bedbugs were in the cushions of the sofas and they removed them," she says.

The woman suspected that the bites could be coming from the room, but they told her that "they had also removed the sofas from the disco area and they didn't even go up to the room, although the woman I met told me that they went up to the room and that the problem wasn't there."

"They told us that they were changing mattresses and bed bases but they should have done that before because we take a fairly long trip because we had checking at three in the afternoon and it was five, and we were very tired," she says.

In addition to this guest, more people who were staying at the hotel filed complaints. "On the way back to the Peninsula, I met a lady from the same group telling me that she had her buttocks and legs full of bites and that when she sat down, it itched her more," she declares. "When I arrived in Badajoz, my place of residence, I went to a health center and I have a medical report," she reveals.

It is not the first time that a tourist has complained about the state of this Costa Teguise hotel, since about two weeks ago, La Voz echoed the situation that another guest had experienced in the same hotel and where her legs were completely full of welts for the same reason.

With bites and without luggage

The tourist's odyssey did not end there because when she traveled to Madrid on Iberia on the 11:15 a.m. flight on November 30, she and more passengers, as La Voz already published, suffered the loss of their luggage by the airline.

The woman has been waiting for her luggage for more than ten days, like many of the other passengers, and this Tuesday she has received one of her two suitcases. "Days ago they sent me a suitcase that was not mine and on top of that they had placed the incident voucher that I made at the airport," she says.

"We have a WhatsApp group of those of us who traveled to Lanzarote and there are people who still have not received any of their suitcases and we have called Iberia countless times," she indicates.

The tourist assures that in the calls "they give them the runaround" and "the airline has to assume its responsibility, compensating not only for the essential items that we have bought, but also for the damages caused," she concludes.
