Two of the teams that aspire to promotion in the Third Federation this season and that have been solvently placed in the promotion play-off zone faced each other at noon on Thursday. UD Lanzarote forgave in the first half and Panadería Pulido San Mateo took advantage of the defensive lapses of the rojillos in the second half to take the victory. Javi Martínez and Azael Perdomo made it 2-0 on the scoreboard and Adrián Machín narrowed the gap with eight minutes remaining.
The match started with a lot of pace from both teams, creating chances from both sides before the 5th minute. In the first minute of the game, Ale Gemelo went down the left wing, his cross was finished by Javi Martinez inside the area, and it was a visiting defender who cleared the danger. UD Lanzarote's response would come just three minutes later, with a move by Adrián Machín on the left and his shot was cleared low by goalkeeper Ale Medina.
The first half of the match did not have a clear dominator, with both teams fighting to take control of the game in the wide area. The defenses controlled the attacks and most of the attacking actions died in the vicinity of the two areas. Ismael Traoré was about to take advantage of a filtered pass, but the ball was left behind when he had everything in his favor to stand alone inside the area.
The clearest chance of the first half came in the 34th minute. A bad pass from Chiqui was taken advantage of by the visitor Jorge Canillas to stand alone inside the area, but his low shot was saved by goalkeeper Ale Medina when the 0-1 was already being sung. UD Lanzarote was better in the final minutes of the first half, having more of the ball in their possession and putting the locals in trouble.
The first half concluded with a chance for Panadería Pulido San Mateo. In the 42nd minute, Ale Gemelo won the back line on the left side, gave it back for the arrival of Javi Martínez and the powerful centered shot was cleared by goalkeeper Ruymán. The first half ended with a goalless draw in La Vega de San Mateo.
The second half started in the worst way for the interests of UD Lanzarote, seeing how the opponent took the lead in the 4th minute of the restart. Panadería Pulido San Mateo recovered a ball in a bad exit from UD Lanzarote from the defensive line, the ball reached Javi Martínez and his shot from the edge of the area surpassed Ruymán's stretch.
The goal conceded left UD Lanzarote touched, a circumstance that Panadería Pulido San Mateo took advantage of to increase the differences in the 20th minute of the second half. In a foul in the vicinity of the area, the rojillos were distracted and allowed the opponent to quickly take the foul, which was culminated by Azael Perdomo from inside the area to make the second.
UD Lanzarote did not give up in the minutes remaining until the end of the match. The entry of Ale Fuentes and León Gómez gave the visitors more presence in attack, trying to open the rival defense on the wings. In the 78th minute, a shot by Santi Rosa from the right side of the area ended up crashing into the top of the crossbar of the goal defended by Ale Medina.
With eight minutes remaining, UD Lanzarote reduced the deficit on the scoreboard. León Gómez filtered a ball between the center backs, which allowed Adrián Machín to stand inside the area and have no problems sending the ball into the back of the net. A goal that gave wings to UD Lanzarote and with the hope of scratching a draw in a match that had become uphill.
The referee added up to eight minutes to this second half, minutes in which Panadería Pulido San Mateo defended with order and could even have sentenced the match with a one-on-one by Pedro Manzi with Ruymán. Despite the attempts of the rojillos, they were not able to generate clear chances and the match ended with a 2-1 score.
The defeat leaves UD Lanzarote in third position, pending what UD Las Palmas does at noon on Friday against Villa de Santa Brígida, and placing them six points behind CD Tenerife “B” who lead the standings, although having one game less than the blanquiazul subsidiary. Arucas CF will be UD Lanzarote's next opponent at the Ciudad Deportiva Lanzarote on Sunday, April 7.
