The Costa Teguise Lanzarote Judo Club (CJCT) spearheaded the Lanzarote team that achieved eight silver medals in the XLIII Canary Islands School Age Judo Championship which was held last weekend in the Municipal Pavilion of Villa de Teguise.

At the Teguise event, in which more than 250 young judokas from all over the Canary Islands took part, the regional children's and cadet finals were held. According to the head of the Teguise club, Antonio Ramírez, “Lanzarote has witnessed the good health of Canarian Judo in a pavilion with a remarkable atmosphere that offered a more than notable space, a good setup, and a magnificent presentation through an organization that received thanks from both the public and from the more than two hundred and fifty judokas and technicians gathered in the Villa de Teguise. Highlighting a good result from our eighteen judokas who, in their different weights and categories, achieved almost a full house of medals, but with a certain bittersweet taste, one gold, eight silvers, and four bronzes, in addition to four fifth places”.

Teguise hosted more than three hundred fights on four simultaneous tatamis with judokas from all the islands who demonstrated the emerging talent of Canarian judo in training age, the transmission of the noble values of judo, respect, camaraderie, personal improvement and competitiveness. The Gran Canaria selection placed at the top of the final medal table, ahead of Tenerife and Lanzarote, which closed the podium. Also noteworthy was the festive atmosphere breathed in the stands with judokas, coaches, technicians and family members from all over the archipelago who were able to enjoy an unforgettable day in Teguise.

To the Canary Islands Judo Championship in School Age, authorities from the Government of the Canary Islands attended, such as the Deputy Minister of Physical Activity and Sports, Ángel Sabroso, as well as representatives from the Cabildo of Lanzarote, such as the Sports Councilor, Juan Monzón, and from the Teguise City Council, led by the mayor, Olivia Duque.
