The XXII Canarian Ball of Wood Tournament ‘Abuelos Conejeros’ begins

In total, more than a hundred teams and 750 people will compete in this emblematic sporting event until May 2024

The Cabildo of Lanzarote inaugurated this past Wednesday the XXII edition of the Canarian Ball of Wood Tournament Abuelos Conejeros. The facilities of the Ajey Canarian Ball Club in San Bartolomé will be the venue for the events between 125 teams and 750 people from all over the Island who will participate in the championship. 

The president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, welcomed all the teams and members and wished them all the luck in this sporting event, which he assured that “will be a success and will bring together once again the elders of Lanzarote who enjoy this sport so much and such special meetings as these”.

In the same vein, the Minister of Sports, Juan Monzón, conveyed his congratulations to the Island Sports Service for the organization of the tournament and wished good luck to all the competitors. “In May 2024 we will all be here to celebrate with the winners and to remember this edition that will be a sure success”, said Monzón. 

The Councilor of the Elderly Area, Nori Machín, highlighted the benefits of this tournament for its participants, as it promotes physical activity and creates new leisure and sports alternatives for the elderly. “We hope that everyone enjoys these months and, from the Cabildo, we will continue working on our commitment to expand the sports program for the group”, said the councilor. 

A total of 59 women's teams and 66 men's teams will play 16 rounds. Each of these will take place on Wednesdays, from 4:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m., until the month of May of next year.
