This week saw the twenty-fourth edition of the Canarias Madeira International Regatta, which featured the participation of four boats representing the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife. The Teguise Lanzarote Sailing Paradise, skippered by Alejandro Morales, was the overall winner of the race, which departed last Tuesday from Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and the boat owned by Ye Cabrera adds its fourth victory in the historic ocean race.
The participating boats set off last Tuesday from the bay of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and headed for Madeira, with 262 nautical miles ahead. Antonio “Toy” Hernández’s Sorcery took the lead of the fleet and was the first boat to complete the course with a time of 33 hours, 33 minutes, and 57 seconds, beating the real-time record held by the Lola, a boat from the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, by almost three hours.
The Teguise Lanzarote Sailing Paradise crossed the finish line in third place, taking 40 hours, 35 minutes, and 32 seconds to complete the 262 nautical miles. Once the compensated time coefficient was applied, the boat skippered by Alejandro Morales was proclaimed the winner of the XXIV Canarias Madeira International Regatta, and the vessel owned by Ye Cabrera adds its fourth victory in this historic regatta.
In the ORC 0-2 class, victory went to the Teguise Lanzarote Sailing Paradise, and Sorcery finished in third place. In the ORC 3 class, Pedro J. Rodríguez's Manitu took second place in the standings. And Miguel Ángel Matallana's Sorondongo IV was forced to retire and return to the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
The Teguise Lanzarote Sailing Paradise is having a great season, and the victory in the Canarias Madeira International Regatta is in addition to the Canary Islands Championship for the cruiser class won a few weeks ago. The boat from the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife will represent the Canary Islands in the Spanish Cruiser Championship, which will be held from October 13th to 16th in Calpe, Alicante.
